“We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience”
---Pierre Teilhard de charden (French Philosopher)

I first met a charming young lady with a infectious smile Dipshikha Sharma in early 1993 at Dhoedaam Tea estate located in Tinsukia District of upper Assam while she was staying with her elder brother Dr. Mridul Sharma, Although Dr. Sharma is a few yards senior to me both in age and service he used to treat me as a close friend sharing even restricted jokes and other confidential matters. But Dr. Sharma’s sister Dipshikha was completely a different package filled with my favorites: music, literature and books, movies, humor and love for nature and animals one could not even imagine how she was dedicated by true self towards every animal around her.

I could still remember in Dhoedaam tea estate Dr. Sharma was keeping a few cows with him on demand from Dipshikha and both of them nourished those cattle very nicely. One of the cows had delivered a calf and happiness showered on Dipshikha and Dr. Sharma. Little calf started playing within a couple of days of his birth. But the God had a different game plan in his mind and the mother cow died in few days post delivery virtually with no symptom to treat on. Consequently the calf turned in to an orphan. At this juncture Dipshikha took charge of the situation and literally she became the calf’s mother. She started feeding fresh cow milk to the calf eight to ten times a day giving the calf all the comfort he needed. She prepared herself Sagu, Barley, Khichiri etc. for the unfortunate calf to become fortunate enough to grow and live with her. The calf used to sleep on the floor of her bed room. That’s the love and fascination one could contend with animals live around us. Most of us love animals but how many of us really could dedicate ourselves for their care and well being to that extent?

she was a very talented singer and composer one could reckon with. she had composed and launched some beautiful modern Assamese song records (Cassets) with her melodious voice and amongst all ‘Borhomthuri’ was the most remarkable one. I still wonder why she didn’t continue with music in spite of all the talent she possessed.

Today Dipshikha is no more physically with us but she will be forever with us as a source of inspiration to love our fellow human beings, all the birds and animals as well as beautiful nature of this planet. Some once remark that, “If the stars came out only once in a lifetime, all of us would be out to see them and would be left speechless by the grandeur of that sight….. but when they shine every night we go for months without ever looking up.”

None of us is going to live forever. Being a cosmic soul we all will merge one day or other with that cosmic energy where we came from. But some of us do such wonderful things during their life time where they differentiate themselves from common to uncommon from ordinary to extra-ordinary and display their bench mark. Dipshikha was such a wonderful person we just cannot afford to forget her. Of course she is still with us and she will be with us forever. May her departed soul live in eternal peace.
